Goodbye 2016 and hello 2017!
A great way to end 2016 is opening your piggy bank and get all the money that you saved for the year. It’s December 31st and now I finally finish the 52 week money challenge that I started last January 2016.
What is 52 week money challenge?
Its basically saving money but in a more challenging way. You see, instead of putting extra pesos in your piggy bank on a random basis, you are forced to save a certain amount on a certain week.
For example, you decided to save 50 pesos in your first week. For the next week you will multiply the 50 pesos to two, that’s 100 pesos going to your piggy bank. By the third week, you multiply the 50 pesos to three and that’s 150 pesos. So on and so forth.
Simply choose how much you will be saving. Either 10, 20, 50, 100 pesos and multiply that on the week number. I created a template so that you can understand it easily and at the same time, to monitor how much you are saving per week. Check the download link below.
Want to start the 52 week challenge?
To start, you will be needing this things:
• An objective. A goal. A reason for saving. Are you saving for a education? For a travel getaway? For a new phone? For home renovation? What ever it is, set a goal since this will keep you motivated on saving.
• A piggy bank. What ever piggy bank or storage that is available. It doesn’t need to be fancy or high end. This will you store your money.
• A template. This will be your guide on the challenge. You use this to monitor how much are you saving and how much more you need to save. Choose a template that will suits you. Print the template. You can download my template right down below. It is in Excel format and every sheet has a different template. Templates for 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos. I also have an image version
How I started and finished the challenge.
Last January 2016, I saw a post on Facebook about saving and it got me intrigued. I can’t remember who posted it but I am really thankful to the person who posted about the 52 week money challenge that I saw. After reading the post and understand how the challenge works, I’ve downloaded the template. I chose the 20 pesos template. Actually I really want to do the 50 pesos but as I checked how much money I need to put in my piggy bank on the last months, I had second thoughts.
Note: Choose a template that will suits you. Some people doing the challenge stops at the middle because they cannot put the amount required on that week. Remember that we need to finish the challenge and have savings at the end of the year.
So I chose to do the 20 pesos template, printed it, and attached it to my piggy bank. By the end of the year I should have 27,560 pesos. I guess I chose the template that is perfect for me. Its not that hard to save for this template. At first I felt bored. When I look my template for the first 12 weeks I noticed that I am not saving that much. But when I reach week 27 that is when I got hyped. I can now see how much I have been saving and I am saving a lot! I haven’t missed putting cash on my piggy bank. Now it’s December 31st. The last day of my 52 week money challenge. I just wanted to say that I finished the challenge and save 27,560 pesos for the whole year. About my goal? Well, I will be spending this for home renovation. Since the roof of our house needs to be renovated. My saving will be put in good use.
It’s now 2017. Are you up for a challenge? Do you want to have that dream phone? A vacation abroad? Home improvement? Do the 52 week money challenge today and start to save that money.
