What a better way to start 2018 is to go hiking. Its been a while since my last hike, that is why I tried to spend my new year at Mt. Balagbag, Rodriguez, Rizal. This is a very special hike for me since this is the first the time that I will be hiking with Nicole.
At height of 777+ MASL and difficulty of 3/9, Mt. Balagbag is one of the fave hiking destinations near Manila. Not just because it is really easy to climb but also it is one of the cheapest if you wanted to climb a mountain. Perfect for beginner hikers and budget travelers.
How to get to Mt. Balagbag?
What I like going to Mt. Balagbag is the convenience of commuting. It is really easy to go there.
From Cubao, ride a bus going to “Tungko”. Tell the conductor to drop you off at BDO Tungko. Usually this is the last stop for these buses. Alight at BDO, at the back of it you will see a jeepney terminal going to “Licao-Licao”. Hop on the jeep and tell the driver to drop you off at Licao. This is the last stop for the jeepnies so no need to worry getting lost.
Arriving at Licao-Licao, you have an option if you wanted to ride a tricycle going to the jump-off or walk for 30 minutes. At the jump-off, you need to pay a fee of 10 pesos for the registration in order to proceed. You don’t need to hire a guide since the hike is really straight forward. Before arriving at the summit you need to pay another 20 pesos for the environmental fee. At the summit you will see a sari-sari store which sells refreshments and snacks. That’s it! Easy right? I made an itinerary below for you to see.
